The project

GENERAL OUTLINE OF THE ACTION

The objective of the A.R.E.E. Project is the creation of a transnational partnership between institutions, research agencies and enterprises for the exchange of innovative projects addressing the transfer and adaptation of products and best practices concerning the environment and safety.

A balanced approach between production and environment, the individuation of alternative energy sources and new ways to improve energy efficiency are essential elements to achieve sustainable development. The economic crisis in act throughout the world is an unrepeatable occasion to stop, reflect and rethink about our work and production models. It is essential to operate at a transnational level exchanging best practices and good ideas, in order to develop a project in which the environment, the companies and their employees work together in synergy.

In the A.R.E.E. Project, the Circondario Empolese Valdelsa and the Province of Prato propose to introduce at the transnational level two locally-based projects financed on the POR OB2 of the Province of Prato (Impresa Ecoefficiente – Ecoefficient Enterprise) and of the Circondario Empolese Valdelsa (Energy Efficiency technician). The former aims at sustaining businesses in the districts of Prato and the Empoli-Valdelsa district during the processes of transformation and innovation by pointing them towards energy saving strategies and environmentally-friendly industrial practices. The latter instead trains professional figures able to prepare technical interventions to ensure energy efficiency and environmental sustainability and who will operate both in the private and public sectors.

The Circondario will bring to the transnational exchange its experience of the Punto Erre, a service offering answers and solutions on such topics as renewable energy sources, energy efficiency and improvement of the quality of our environment.

At the regional level the A.R.E.E. Project interacts with the LINEA Project, funded by the Ministry for Economical Development and coordinated by PIN Scrl.

The Province of Prato and the Circondario Empolese Valdelsa propose a transnational activity with the town of Freiburg in Germany, its Town Council, its Research Agencies and enterprises.

PROPOSED ACTIONS

The main action concerns the establishment of a partnership between the Province of Prato, the Administrative District of Empoli-Valdelsa and the town of Freiburg aimed at the creation of an A.R.E.E. knowledge base, which will promote an exchange of information, training, people, experiences and ideas.

The transnational actions also include a newsletter, used as a means for internal communications, to distribute information/training and for the establishment of partnerships in Freiburg.

The two local projects Impresa Ecoefficiente (Province of Prato), Course for the training of Experts in Energy Efficiency (Circondario Empolese Valdelsa) and the national project LINEA (PIN Scrl) will participate in the A.R.E.E. knowledge base through their actions. A mentoring service will be carried out by team of researchers. They will also organize a seminar to take a deeper look at the topics faced during the transnational visits. The duration of the project is 11 months, from November 2009 to September 2010.
